Toyota India has launched a new high-spec variant, the GR Sport (GR-S), in the Indian market for Rs 48.43 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Toyota Fortuner GR Sport costs Rs 3.8 lakh more than the standard 4X4 Fortuner Legender. The SUV is available in two colours: White Pearl Crystal and Attitude Black. It receives a slew of mechanical and cosmetic upgrades. The Toyota Fortuner Legender is available in 4X2 and 4X4 automatic configurations, whereas the new GR Sport is only available in 4X4 automatic configurations.
The GR Sport receives a new front bumper, which includes a redesigned air dam, fog lamp housings, and GR badging. The Legende’s dual-tone alloys give way to dark finished units on the sides, while the rear features a tweaked bumper and a body-coloured trim piece running between the tail lamps. The GR-S also gets red brake callipers with the GR logo on them.
Inside, the car has received cosmetic updates to give it a sportier appearance, as well as plenty of GR badging. The seats are upholstered in black leather and suede, with red stitching and GR logos on the headrests. The instrument panel and centre console have a different trim finish, and the steering wheel has the GR logo as well. The car has dual-zone climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, connected car tech, a JBL audio system, a gesture-controlled tailgate, stability control, 7 airbags, and traction control.
Toyota has revised the suspension, while the engine output remains unchanged. GR retunes the SUV’s setup, so we can expect a difference in ride quality compared to the standard model.
The familiar 2.8-litre diesel engine powers the Fortuner GR-S, producing 201 bhp at 3000-3400rpm and 500 Nm of peak torque between 1600-2800rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive is standard on the GR-S.
