Tata Nexon EV MAX vs MG ZS EV : Which EV is better ?

The Tata Nexon EV Max has been launched in India. It is simply a longer-range version of the Nexon EV, which is already a big hit in the Indian EV segment. This Electric vehicle competes with the 2022 MG ZS EV in the Indian market. But the question is whether the long-range Nexon EV will impact MG ZS EV sales. Tata Nexon EV MAX vs MG ZS EV : Dimension 

The new Tata Nexon EV Max measures 3,993 mm in length, 1,811 mm in width, and 1,616 mm in height. The MG ZS EV, on the other hand, measures 4,323 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width, and 1,649 mm in height. Looking at the numbers, it is clear that the MG ZS EV is larger than the Tata Nexon EV Max. This implies that the MG may have more interior space than the other model.

Tata Nexon EV MAX vs MG ZS EV: Powertrain

The recently launched Tata Nexon EV Max, as the name suggests, is a long-range version of the Nexon EV, powered by a 40.5 kWh battery and an electric motor producing 143 PS and 250 Nm torque. The MG ZS EV, on the other hand, has a larger IP69 50.3 kWh battery pack with a peak power of 176.75 PS, giving it an advantage.

So, based on the powertrain specifications, it is clear that the MG ZS EV is the clear winner here because it has a larger battery setup than the Nexon EV MAx. Let’s see if the larger battery setup provides the MG ZS EV with a better range or not.

Tata Nexon EV MAX vs MG ZS EV: Range 

Because the MG ZS EV has a larger battery pack, it is natural that it has more range and acceleration than the Nexon EV Max. The ARAI-certified range of the Tata Nexon EV max is 437 km, while the claimed range of the MG ZS EV is 461 km. Both electric SUVs have a top speed of 140 kmph, but the MG ZS EV accelerates slightly faster.

With the Nexon EV max, Tata offers two charging options: standard 3.3kWh and 7.2kWh AC fast charger. The Nexon EV Max’s battery pack can be charged from 0 to 80% in 56 minutes using any 50 kW DC fast charger, 15 hours using a 3.3kWh charger, and 5-6 hours using a 7.2kWh AC fast charger.

The MG ZS EV comes in two trim levels, and the starting price is even higher than the top trim level of the Tata Nexon EV Max. Of course, the larger battery pack justifies the higher price.

Tata Nexon EV MAX vs MG ZS EV: Features

The Tata Nexon EV Max receives new Z connect 2.0 connected car technology, which includes more than 48 connected car features. Furthermore, the SUV includes an auto/manual DTC check, smartwatch integration, monthly vehicle reports, a charging limit, and other features. The top-tier XZ+ LUX model gets an electric sunroof, an air purifier, and ventilated front seats. The MG ZS EV features a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, connected car technology, a panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, a 360-degree camera, and other features.

Verdict: Which one is better?

Though Tata Nexon has a smaller battery pack than MG ZS EV, there isn’t much of a difference in their range to justify paying 4-5 lakh rupees more for MG ZS EV. Even the top trim level of the Tata Nexon EV max costs almost 3 lakh rupees less than the base trim level of the MG ZS EV. So, in terms of price, Tata Nexon EV max would be a great option for those who cannot stretch their budget to purchase MG ZS EV.
However, if you don’t have a budget constraint, the MG ZS EV is a better option than the Tata Nexon EV Max in terms of space, practicality, features, and, of course, better Range.
