Since fuel prices have risen, India’s CNG market has also expanded. People want aftermarket options while also expecting factory-fitted equipment. As a result, certain Indian automobile manufacturers have announced the launch of CNG trims in their respective models. So here are some upcoming CNG cars that people may look forward to if planning for a fuel-efficient car.
1. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG
Along with the launch of the Glanza CNG, Toyota stated that the CNG model of the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV will be available in the Indian market soon. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG model is currently available for booking at a price tag of Rs 25,000.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG will be powered by a 1.5-litre Naturally Aspirated bi-fuel petrol engine that is expected to produce 86 bhp, comparable to the Maruti Suzuki XL6 CNG model. The engine will only be available with a five-speed manual gearbox. The company says that the Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG SUV will achieve a mileage of 26.1 km/kg. Aside from that, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG will be available in S and G variants.
2. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG
Following the debut of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG, the Grand Vitara is slated to be the first Maruti SUV to provide CNG. However, Brezza CNG is also expected to arrive shortly, although it will most likely follow Grand Vitara CNG. As a result, the Grand Vitara CNG might be introduced as soon as the Toyota Hyryder CNG hits the market.
The 1.5-litre K15C four-cylinder engine will power the Grand Vitara CNG. This is the same as with the Ertiga CNG and the XL6 CNG. The performance figures are believed to be the same as the XL6 CNG, which produces 88 hp and 121.5 Nm. The fuel efficiency will be comparable to the Toyota Hyryder CNG, which gives 26.10 km/kg.The CNG model is estimated to be Rs 75k to Rs 95k more expensive. For now, the Grand Vitara CNG is confirmed to be available in Delta and Zeta model.
3. Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG
As per internet sources, Maruti has decided to offer a CNG trim with every model of the currently available Maruti Suzuki Brezza 2022. In fact, the CNG version of the Brezza might be available with both manual and automatic transmissions.
In terms of powertrain, the Brezza CNG might be equipped with the 1.5L K15C petrol engine as well as smart hybrid technology that will be linked to the CNG kit. The output figures as usual will be slightly less than what the ICE engine offers and can be somewhere around 102bhp power with 137Nm torque. The biggest advantage however will be the mileage, which can be as good as 25km/kg to 30 km/kg which isn’t impossible for Maruti’s S-CNG.
4. Kia Carens CNG
Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga and XL6 are now the only MPVs in India with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Therefore, Kia Motors aims to increase its market share by enticing more consumers with the release of the CNG version of the Kia Carens.
The Kia Carens CNG was recently spotted testing in India, and according to spy images, the CNG version of the Kia Carens gets a more powerful 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This implies that the future CNG version of the Kia Carens will be India’s first turbocharged CNG car. However, like other CNG vehicles in India, the CNG version of Kia Carens will be available with manual transmission only.
5. Tata Altroz CNG
Tata Motors may introduce Altroz CNG in the Indian car market after the release of Baleno CNG and Glanza CNG. Altroz is also a standout product in the premium hatchback class. It is a decent car with both petrol and diesel powertrains and a variety of trim levels. The CNG variant was also spotted testing on our roads this year, implying a 2023 introduction.
It will be available with the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, and with the CNG kit fitted, the power figures will drop slightly. Tata also introduced the DCA transmission in the Altroz, however, the CNG version may not be available with it. The rest of the functions and aesthetic enhancements may remain unchanged.
