Beginning with Mahindra’s most recent entry, the XUV700. The car was unveiled to a rapt audience, heralding a shift in Mahindra’s design language and overall approach to automobiles. Some variants of the car now have a waiting period of up to a year and a half.
Following suit is the Mahindra Thar, which has finally found a common ground between an offroad lifestyle SUV and a creature comfort-friendly city SUV in its latest generation. The car received a massive response in its new generation, and the waiting period for a few variants has increased to a year. The Creta comes as another offering from the house of Hyundai which is currently witnessing a staggering demand which when combined with the shortage of chips has resulted in a waiting period of up to 10 months.
The story continues with vehicles such as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Tata Punch, both of which have 9-month waiting lists. This is followed by the Kia Carens, which was recently launched in India and has already gained a lot of traction! Select variants have a waiting period of up to twelve months, while the Kia Seltos has a waiting period of about six months.
The Magnite, which has resulted in a much-needed turnaround for Nissan, currently has a 5-month waiting period. Finally, both the Tata Nexon and the MG Astor are now showing a four-month waiting period.
Companies have been trying to ramp up production and procure chip supplies to cut down on the customer queue.
