Mahindra Thar 5-door- What all to Expect?

According to media stories, Mahindra is planning to launch a 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar SUV in India. Thar’s redesigned model is expected to be unveiled alongside vehicles such as the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door and Force Gurkha 5-door at the Auto Expo 2023 in January next year.

The five-door model is said to have a longer wheelbase than the current three-door variant of the Mahindra Thar. It may also have an upright tail light and a spare wheel at the back. In addition, the Thar 5-door model will have a dedicated door for the rear seats, which means more interior space. So, if you’re interested in the upcoming 5-door version, here’s a list of facts you should know.

(1) Mahindra Thar 5-door- Exterior Styling

The 5-door Mahindra Thar will look very similar to the current 3-door model, but it will be longer and have a wider wheelbase. We anticipate round headlamps and rectangular taillights, as well as flared arches, a muscular bonnet, and a tailgate that opens sideways (with a spare wheel mounted on it). We don’t expect the upcoming 5-door Thar to have a convertible roof, unlike the current Thar.

(2) Mahindra Thar 5-door- Improved Space

As the name suggests, the 5-door Mahindra Thar will have 5 doors, which means more seats and space. The current generation 3-door Thar is great for off-roading, but it is cramped on the road, and rear seat passengers are cramped. The new 5-door Thar will have more space for occupants and luggage, making it ideal for long family vacations without sacrificing comfort.

(3) Mahindra Thar 5-door- Better Chasis

Mahindra has confirmed that the Thar 5-door will use the Scorpio-N chassis, and now a test mule with the impressive pentalink suspension with Watt’s Linkage at the rear has been spotted. This translates to an SUV with commendable dynamics for a vehicle of this size and weight riding on a traditional ladder-frame chassis. That means the Thar 5-door will have a better ride and handling than the current 3-door Thar and will be more on-road capable than the Scorpio-N.

(4) Mahindra Thar 5-door- Features

The 5-door Thar will retain the same features as the current vehicle, including a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, navigation, cruise control, follow-me-home headlamps, tyre direction monitoring system, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, and more.

(5) Mahindra Thar 5-door- Engine/ Powertrain Options

The upcoming Thar 5-door will be powered by the same engine options as its three-door sibling. A 150 bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 130 bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine are available. The 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions will be available, as well as four-wheel drive and a low-ratio transfer case.

(6) Thar 5-door- Expected Launch

The 5-door Thar is expected to hit the Indian market in 2023. It will compete with the upcoming 5-door Force Gurkha, which is expected to go on sale later this year, when it is released.
