Suzuki Jimny 5 Door to get a powerful turbo engine. Global debut in 2022.

The Suzuki Jimny 5 door was expected to see a global debut this year in Tokyo Motor Show 2021 but due to the ongoing covid-19 global pandemic, the motor show has been canceled and hence the Jimny 5 door will be officially unveiled next year.

The LWB ( Long wheelbase ) 4×4 off-roader from Suzuki is also expected to feature a more powerful turbo mild-hybrid engine to compensate for the weight increase as the Jimny 5-door will weigh 1,190kg which is 100kg more than the regular Jimny 3 door.

The 5 door Jimny will have a 210mm ground clearance, a length of 3,850mm, a width of 1,645mm, and a height of 1,730mm. Since it will be an LWB version of 3 door Jimny therefore the wheelbase will be 2,550mm long, which is 300mm longer than the regular Jimny. With these numbers, the Jimmy 5-door is still smaller in terms of dimensions as compared to the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

The regular 3 door Jimny is powered by the 1.5-litre Naturally aspirated K15B four-cylinder petrol which makes 102 hp at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm at 4,000 rpm. However, the 5 Door version could come up with an updated version of the 1.4 L K14D Boosterjet mild-hybrid engine which also does duty on Suzuki Swift Sport and Suzuki Vitara which are not available in India.

This turbocharged petrol engine is combined with a 48-volt SHVS mild hybrid technology and an 8Ah Lithium-Ion Battery. The powerful turbo mild-hybrid engine could produce up to 138 bhp of power and 220 N-m of Torque. The performance figures would be adequate for a small size 4×4 car that weighs 1,190kg.

2022 maruti suzuki Jimny

In India, the Jimny could be launched as Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. However, the official announcement is yet to be made. Just like its regular 3 door version, the 5 door Jimny also continues with a ladder frame construction like Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. Maruti Suzuki has already commenced the production of 3 door Jimny which is currently being exported to international markets. The Jimny 5 door is expected to come to India, however, its launch timeline could be delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. Once Launched we expect the Suzuki Jimny 5-door to be priced above the Vitara Brezza.
