Kia Carens vs Toyota Innova Crysta Comparison : Are they perfect rivals ?

The latest addition to Kia India’s portfolio is the 6/7 Seater MPV Carens, which was introduced in India on February 15, 2022. Before prices were announced, bookings for Carens had already topped 19,00, and waiting periods range from 13-14 weeks to 48-49 weeks (which is more than 11 months).
Following the success of the Carens MPV, Kia fans are comparing it to the Toyota Innova Crysta, India’s best-selling MPV. Although both cars have the same characteristics, they belong to different segments; however, if you are looking for an MPV today, the Affordable Price of Carens is bound to come to mind when comparing it to Innova Crysta.

Although we don’t need a table to compare the dimensions of both MPVs because it is clear from the above picture that the Innova Crysta is a larger MPV than the Kia Carens, I have mentioned a table above and by analysing the table we can easily say that the Innova is a bigger car than cars in every way except the Wheelbase.

Kia Carens has the longest wheelbase in the segment, which is a plus. However, this does not imply that the Kia Carens has a larger cabin than the Toyota Innova. However, it is unquestionably a genuine 7-seater, similar to the Innova Crysta, rather than a 5+2-seater.

Kia Carens vs Toyota Innova Crysta : Engine

Because both cars are in different segments, it is natural that they have very different engine and transmission options. The iconic Toyota Innova MPV is known for having the best engine options in its class. It is extremely reliable when it comes to engines and provides excellent performance as well. It comes with two engines: 2.7-litre petrol and a 2.4-litre diesel. The petrol variant produces 166 PS and 245 Nm, while the diesel produces 150 PS and 360 Nm. It has a five-speed manual transmission and a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Kia Carens, on the other hand, provides a diverse range of engine and transmission options, which is its primary advantage. It has three engines:  1.5-litre petrol, a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel. The 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 113bhp and 144Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Meanwhile, the turbo-petrol engine produces 138bhp and 242Nm and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a seven-speed DCT unit. The diesel variant produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque and is available with a six-speed manual or a torque converter automatic transmission.

Kia Carens vs Toyota Innova Crysta : Features

In terms of features, Cars from Kia or Hyundai are always the best in the segment, and Carens is no exception. In terms of features, it is even better than the Innova crysta. On the dashboard of the Kia Carens is a 10.25-inch/8.0-inch infotainment screen. The vehicle’s touch panel provides users with a variety of controls. Other notable features include a Bose 8-speaker system, a multi-function steering wheel with audio controls, and so on. The Kia Carens is available in 6- and 7-seater configurations.

Carens also receives features that distinguish it as a stand-alone product in India. From its base variant, the Kia Carens offers some incredible safety features such as 6 airbags, ESC, all 4 disc brakes, TPMS, and so on.

When it comes to the Innova, it is also a feature-rich MPV, but not as much as Kia vehicles. LED projector headlamps, automatic headlamps, fog lamps, automatic AC, cruise control, perforated leather seats and USB fast charging port, eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, easy-slid passenger seat, Camel Tan perforated leather seats, and seven airbags are among the highlights of the Innova.

Kia Carens vs Toyota Innova Crysta : Price

Pricing is an important consideration here, as Kia Carens is more affordable than the Toyota Innova Crysta due to a segment lower than the Innova. The Innova has priced between Rs 17.3 lakh and Rs 25.32 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the Kia Carens is priced between Rs. 8.99 lakh and Rs. 16.99 lakh.

Kia Carens vs Toyota Innova Crysta : Are they perfect rivals ?

From the comparison above, it is clear that we cannot say these two are perfect rivals because the pricing, engine performance, and features are quite different, but one thing we can definitely conclude is that the Kia Carens could be a good alternative to the Toyota Innova if one wants an affordable car with great safety features from the base variant.

Now it’s your turn to tell us which car you prefer and why ?
