After the launch of the Kushaq compact SUV, Skoda is about to launch a new sedan in the Indian market. The new Sedan will not be a direct replacement to the Rapid sedan instead, it will be Larger in dimension and likely to get the “Slavia” Name.
The Slavia has been seen numerous times while testing in India but this was the first time when it has been spied while testing in the Czech Republic by Carscoops. Despite being tested in Europe, the camouflaged version of Slavia was Right-Hand Drive as the Slavia is a Made in India as well as Made for India product just like Kushaq.
Skoda Slavia : What is Expect ?
The production Slavia will be the sedan version of the Fabia with a longer body and a larger boot. VW Group is already offering a very similar model – the VW Virtus, which is the four-door version of the VW Polo. The headlights and grille look identical to the Skoda Fabia, but the character lines on the profile and the extended rear end look very similar to the VW Virtus. This is the same design technique used in Kushaq and Taigun. The front and rear fascia of both cars are different but the side profile is identical.
Once launched Skoda Slavia will be the third product placed under the banner of the India 2.0 project of Skoda AUTO Volkswagen India, where cars from the Volkswagen Group will be heavily localized in India to keep prices competitive. Moreover, its cousin and rival, The Volkswagen Virtus have recently been spotted on the Indian Roads which give some clues on what to expect from VW’s India-specific new sedan.
Skoda Slavia : Engine and Tranmission
The entry-level variants of Slavia will be powered by a 1.0-L TSI turbocharged petrol engine that makes 118bhp/178Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AT. The higher variants, on the other hand, will get a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor that can churn out 148 bhp/250Nm with a 6 Speed Manual and a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch ) Transmission.
Skoda Slavia : Expected Launch & Price
Skoda will unveil the Slavia at the end of this year and launch could happen in Early 2022. Since Slavia will be bigger than Rapid, therefore it is expected to be priced from Rs 10.50 lakh to Rs 17.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the likes of Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Toyota Belta( Rebadged version of Ciaz ).
