Mahindra has been highly teasing the new Scorpio in recent days. The unmasked images of the third-generation SUV have now leaked online. With the launch scheduled for June, the new snapshots provide a sneak peek of what’s to come.
1. New Design Language-
The next-generation Scorpio appears tall and imposing, with large wheel arches and an extended wheelbase. The spotted SUV was finished in white and featured an older Mahindra logo. It should be noted that the series production will feature the new logo that debuted with the XUV700.
The front fascia of the new Mahindra Scorpio is reminiscent of previous-generation models, having been inspired by them. The rear profile is fresh, with a Volvo-like LED light signature. The chunky cladding has been replaced with a sleek one that runs across the car and forms the majority of the rear bumper in a modern way.
2. New Engine/Transmission-
The new-generation Scorpio is expected to borrow engines and transmissions from the XUV700, which means it will be available with both the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the 2.2-litre oil burner. However, it remains to be seen whether they will be offered in the same key as their elder sibling.
If that’s the case, both manual and automatic transmission options will be available with both the petrol and diesel engines. Furthermore, the 2022 Scorpio will be available with an optional 4×4 drivetrain, making it one of the most affordable SUVs in India to do so.
3. A Fresh Interior-
The interior of the 2022 Scorpio will undergo significant changes, as will the exterior. To be honest, the current-generation Scorpio appears outdated in comparison to much more modern competitors. Spy photos show a much larger infotainment screen with AC vents on both sides. The car gets circular dials for the automatic climate control and the volume knob, similar to the current-generation model.
The interior will be completely redesigned, including the new flat-bottom steering wheel, switchgear, centre console, instrument cluster, and so on. Furthermore, the current-generation Scorpio’s side-facing third row seats will be replaced with a traditional front-facing bench. A 6-seat layout will most likely include two captain chairs in the middle row.
4. Updated Features-
The current Scorpio comes standard with cruise control, automatic climate control, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and AUX connectivity, and auto headlamps with LED DRLs. The new-generation SUV, on the other hand, will almost certainly come with a slew of new features, such as an 8-inch touchscreen unit with connected-car technology, a wireless charger, wireless smartphone connectivity, a 360-degree camera, an electric sunroof, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and much more.
5. Price-
The current-generation Scorpio costs between Rs 13.54 lakh and Rs 18.62 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the 2022 iteration of the three-row SUV is expected to have a slightly lower starting price in order to compete with the XUV700, which is currently priced from Rs 13.18 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). The top-end variants of the new Scorpio, on the other hand, are expected to be slightly more expensive than the current model.
