Maruti Suzuki Baleno 2022- Which variant is best for you?

Maruti Suzuki has just released the all-new Baleno in India, with prices ranging from Rs 6.35 lakh to Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom). With the exception of a minor cosmetic update in 2019, this is the first major update for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno since its introduction in 2015. This time, it has been completely redesigned from the ground up, with the most notable difference being its extensive feature set.

The new Baleno is available in four trim levels and two powertrain options. We take a close look at the features and powertrain options available with each Baleno variant.

A 90hp, 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine provides power.
The new AMT gearbox replaces the CVT automatic unit from the previous model.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno: engine and gearbox details

The new Baleno is powered by a single 90hp, 113Nm K12N DualJet petrol engine. This engine has variable valve timing and an integrated starter generator (ISG), which allows for automatic engine stop/start to save fuel. It does not, however, include Maruti’s SHVS mild-hybrid system for increased torque and efficiency.

The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, but Maruti Suzuki has ditched the CVT from the previous model in favour of a 5-speed AMT for the automatic transmission. This is done to save money and make the automatic variants more accessible to buyers. The previous Baleno was also available with an 83hp, 1.2-litre K12M petrol engine, but this has since been discontinued, it will be not available.
