As a Passionate sedan lover, my recent drive experience with the Toyota Camry Hybrid was nothing short of exhilarating. After an extensive 6-day trip covering over 1200 km, I am eager to share my thoughts on the Camry Hybrid 2023 and whether it should be your next automotive companion.
In India, the Camry Hybrid stands alone with its unique hybrid powertrain (ICE + Motor). It sets itself apart from German rivals like the Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Its impressive length of 4885 mm surpasses the Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, providing a grand presence on Indian roads. It is essentially a less expensive version of its more opulent bigger brother, the Lexus ES 300h, which I reviewed previously.
Though not as quick as German sedans, the Camry Hybrid presents a delightful driving experience. Powered by a motor and a petrol ICE engine, it runs on electric mode up to 60%* of the time, reducing carbon emissions and increasing fuel efficiency. Combining a 178hp, 221Nm, 2.5-litre petrol engine with a 120hp, 202Nm motor generator, the Camry Hybrid boasts a commendable 218hp.
One impressive feature is the ability to drive in full EV (electric vehicle) mode with gentle throttle inputs, when starting the car, it runs so silently that onlookers might wonder if it’s an electric vehicle!
While not as sporty as its German counterparts, the Camry Hybrid offers an unmatched level of driving comfort. Its suspension system adeptly absorbs road imperfections, providing a smooth and composed ride. The rear seat comfort is exceptional, thanks to the spacious cabin with a 2825 mm wheelbase. Moreover, the low ground clearance of approximately 160 mm ensures stability and comfort even at higher speeds.
While the Camry Hybrid excels in many aspects, it may not be a feature-loaded car like some of its competitors. For its price tag of around Rs 53 lacks (on-road, Delhi), it offers standard features like a small sunroof, wireless charger, ventilated front seats, powered steering, front seat adjustment, rear armrest with a touch panel, front parking sensors, and 3-zone climate control. However, it lacks features like a 360-degree camera, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), a better infotainment system, and a sharp rear camera.
The Camry Hybrid is low in maintenance, making it a practical choice for everyday use. It operates smoothly and silently in electric mode up to 60%* of the time, ensuring a peaceful journey. The electric motor and battery components require minimal maintenance, making it hassle-free and budget-friendly.
The Camry Hybrid’s higher price in India, at Rs 53 lakh on-road in Delhi, is attributed to its import through the CKD route, resulting in additional excise duty. As a result, the car is not as commonly seen on Indian roads despite its popularity in other markets. Despite this, the car justifies its cost with its unmatched features, comfort, and fuel efficiency. With Toyota’s reliability and the remarkable mileage of 23 km on highways, the Camry Hybrid is undoubtedly a worthwhile investment.
In conclusion, if you seek a sedan that delivers on sustainability, comfort, and road presence, the Toyota Camry Hybrid 2023 is the ultimate choice. While it may not match German rivals in speed or features, its dependability, fuel efficiency, and luxury set it apart. With a big thumbs up, I highly recommend considering this hybrid sedan – it’s an unbeatable package of comfort, value, and sophistication.
