The Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo. As both cars are excellent off-road vehicles, Mahindra Thar’s position in the Indian market may be imperilled with the introduction of the Jimny 5-door. So here’s a detailed comparison of the two vehicles.

The Jimny gets six airbags, a push button to start/stop the engine, headlamp washers, automatic LED headlamps and a 9-inch infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The Thar has a tyre pressure monitoring system, adventure statistics, 18-inch alloy wheels, driver seat height adjustment, roof-mounted speakers, and a 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Aside from these features, both SUVs come standard with cruise control, a multi-function steering wheel, rear parking sensors, Hill Hold Control, ESP, and Hill Descent Control.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs Mahindra Thar- Engine/ Transmission Options
The Jimny’s engine options are limited to a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine. It has a peak torque of 134 Nm and a power output of 103 bhp. It is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It comes standard with four-wheel drive.
The Mahindra Thar, on the other hand, comes with three engine options. There are three engines available: a 1.5-litre diesel, a 2.0-litre turbo petrol, and a 2.2-litre diesel. The 1.5-litre engine produces 113 hp and 300 nm of peak torque. It is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission that drives the rear wheels.
The 2.2-litre diesel engine generates 128 hp and 300 Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine generates 148 hp and up to 320 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. These engines also come standard with four-wheel drive.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny has a 36-degree approach angle, a 50-degree departure angle, and a 24-degree ramp breakover angle. While the Mahindra Thar has greater approach and rampover angles, the Jimny has a greater departure angle. The Mahindra Thar has a massive 650 mm water wading capacity, whereas Maruti Suzuki has yet to reveal the figure for the Jimny 5-door.

In terms of pricing, Maruti Suzuki has yet to reveal the prices for the Jimny 5-door. As a result, we anticipate a price range of Rs 9-10 lakh (ex-showroom).
