Ford commenced operations in India in 1995, establishing manufacturing facilities in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and Sanand, Gujarat. While the Sanand plant was sold to Tata Motors in 2023, speculation abounds regarding the Chennai facility.
Despite receiving offers from various OEMs like Vinfast, MG, and Tata Motors, Ford refrained from selling its Endeavour manufacturing unit in Chennai. Recent sightings of the Ford Everest, the global variant of the Endeavour, near Chennai, alongside the Ford Ranger truck, have sparked speculation.
Though there’s been no official announcement from Ford regarding the resumption of vehicle sales in India, several reports suggest that Endeavour could make a comeback by the end of 2024 or early 2025.
2024 Ford Endeavour: What to expect?
The new Ford Endeavour continues to sit on the Ranger pickup’s platform, ensuring it retains its robust ladder-frame architecture. However, the new Endeavour would be brought in as a completely built unit (CBU), potentially offering a fully loaded version for sale.If imported into India, the new Endeavour would likely be more exclusive and sold in smaller numbers.
It shares design elements, body panels, and powertrains with the Ranger, boasting a boxier front end with a large grille and Matrix LED headlights with C-shaped daytime running lights. The new SUV features a more squared-off design and inverted L-shaped LED tail-lights extending onto the upright tailgate, connected by a black plastic panel.
Ford Endeavour 2024 Powertrain
Globally, the new Everest offers engine options including two 2.0-liter turbo-diesel variants and a new 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual and a 10-speed automatic transmission, with some markets also offering the SUV with a 2WD setup.
