MG Motor has made significant changes to Hector’s design and features with the launch of the facelifted model, including ADAS, a new larger touchscreen infotainment system, a better 360-degree camera, and much more.
We recently had the opportunity to drive the new MG Hector 2023 from Delhi to Jaipur via the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. We had a chance to thoroughly test the car’s performance and efficiency with the trip metre showing a total distance of 796 km. In this review, I’ll talk about my experience driving the MG Hector 2023, as well as our thoughts on its fuel economy.
Engine Performance
The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine in the MG Hector Petrol CVT 2023 produces 141 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. During our test drive, we discovered that the engine was very refined and delivered a good performance. The smooth CVT transmission made driving the vehicle easier, especially in traffic. It’s worth noting that the diesel Hector has a larger displacement and more torque, making it faster and more powerful than the petrol version.
With its 1.5 L turbo petrol engine, the MG Hector Petrol 2023 can accelerate from 0 to 100 Kmph in nearly 12 seconds, making it a reasonably quick mid-size SUV. While the petrol CVT version is quite punchy, there were a few times when we needed to overtake it quickly, and the CVT transmission felt like it was on a rubber band. In those moments, we wished the vehicle had a DCT or AT instead of a CVT.
Overall, we thought the engine performance of the MG Hector Petrol CVT 2023 was quite good, with the engine producing adequate power and the CVT transmission making driving easier.
The MG Hector 2023 is now equipped with L2 advanced driver assistance features such as lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control, which we had the opportunity to test during our drive on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Both of these features were very precise, making the drive much easier and less stressful.
2023 MG HECTOR: Suspension and Handling
The MG Hector 2023 has impressive handling and suspension, making it comfortable to drive on rough roads. Because the suspension is not stiff, the car easily absorbs bumps and potholes, providing a smooth ride even on rough terrain.
However, when driving at high speeds, the car can feel bouncy, which may be uncomfortable for some drivers. It is important to note that this has no effect on the car’s stability, which remains good even at high speeds.
2023 MG HECTOR: Interior Comfort
The MG Hector 2023’s interior comfort can be described in one word: outstanding! In its class, it’s difficult to find another vehicle that can compete with Hector’s level of comfort. The vehicle is very spacious, with extremely comfortable seats that offer excellent support during long drives.
The front seats are electrically adjustable, making it very easy to find a comfortable driving position, and the cabin is well-designed and luxurious, with high-quality materials used throughout. We felt no fatigue or discomfort during our 800 Km drive, which is a testament to the car’s excellent interior comfort.
Not only is it comfortable, but there are a few features that make driving more convenient, such as a 360-degree camera, ADAS features for assistance, an electronic tailgate with wireless charging, and a large panoramic sunroof that makes the car feel like we are sitting in a car that costs 40-50 lakhs.
2023 MG HECTOR: Mileage
Mileage is an important factor that most buyers consider when purchasing a car, and it’s critical to thoroughly discuss it for the MG Hector Petrol 2023. During our 800 km drive, we got a fuel efficiency of 10-11 Kmpl, which may disappoint some buyers looking for a fuel-efficient vehicle.
It’s important to note that mileage can vary depending on factors like driving style, traffic conditions, and terrain. We drove on the Expressway, which is relatively flat and open, but we encountered some traffic and passed through some traffic sections (Dausa to Jaipur), which may have impacted the mileage.
The Hector Petrol CVT’s 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine provides adequate performance, but it is not as fuel-efficient as some of its competitors. If mileage is important to you, you might want to consider the Hector diesel, which has better fuel efficiency.
Conclusion: Should you Buy MG Hector Petrol?
In conclusion, if you value comfort, features, and overall driving experience over fuel efficiency, the MG Hector Petrol 2023 is an excellent mid-size SUV option. It feels like you’re driving a higher-end vehicle and provides excellent value for money.
