The new-generation Tucson from Hyundai has indeed been unveiled ahead of its launch on August 4, 2022. Like its predecessor, the new Tucson has options for both petrol and diesel engines, as well as all-wheel drive. Along with a host of other features, Hyundai’s market leader internal combustion SUV for India comes equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Aids, making it one of the most technologically advanced vehicles on the market.
2022 Hyundai Tucson: Exterior design
Tucson features a design that is generally more aggressive than its predecessor and adheres to Hyundai’s Curvaceous Sportiness design language. Hyundai’s most recent design language features numerous noticeable cuts and creases, which stand out even more when viewed from the side. The new Parametric Jewel Design grille is placed on the front of the nose, and it is surrounded by ‘jewel-design’ half-mirror-style inverted L-shaped LED DRLs. When the DRLs are off, they disappear into the grille, making the vehicle appear wider than it actually is. In keeping with the geometric pattern found in the grille finish, the DRLs have a segmented pattern. The bumper contains the actual main headlamps as well as a noticeable central air vent and a skid plate element.
A sloped rear windshield and a full-width light bar connecting angular and sleek taillamps define the rear of the car. A faux skid plate-like element is added to the rear bumper as well, and a jewel-like pattern is added to the black plastic cladding.
The new Tucson is 1,865 mm wide, 1,665 mm tall, and 4,630 mm long. The wheelbase measures an impressive 2,755 mm. The mid-size SUV’s new generation rides on 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels with 235/60 section tyres.
2022 Hyundai Tucson: Interior/ Features
The new Tucson is completely different from its predecessor inside as well. The dashboard has a new wraparound design, is much more minimalistic, and substitutes touch panels for the majority of physical controls. Black and grey in two tones make up the interior’s colour scheme. Unlike the Creta and Alcazar, the four-spoke steering wheel is also unique.
The new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which has a piano black surround and is neatly integrated into the dashboard, is the star of the show. A free-standing, 10.25-inch digital driver’s display with customizable themes and turn-by-turn navigation is also available. The new HVAC controls are accessed via a touch-based panel below the infotainment system. The automatic gear lever and a few physical buttons for seat ventilation and other functions are located in the centre console.
Dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, an air purifier, heated and ventilated front seats, 64-colour ambient lighting, 360-degree cameras, electric adjustment for the driver’s seat with memory function, rain-sensing wipers, reclining rear seats, BlueLink connected car features with over-the-air updates, voice commands, Alexa and Google assistant, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, and a powered tailgate are among the features.
2022 Hyundai Tucson: Comes Equipped with Level 2 ADAS
Additionally, the new Tucson is the first Hyundai to be equipped with ADAS in India. The Level 2 ADAS suite includes features like rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, blind spot assistance, forward collision warning, and more. Aside from the ADAS technology, the Tucson has six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, and hill descent control as standard safety features.
2022 Hyundai Tucson: Engine/ Powertrains
Coming to the engine line-up, the new Tucson will be available with a pair of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. The petrol is a naturally aspirated unit and develops 154 bhp and 192 Nm of torque and is available solely with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The 2.0-litre diesel meanwhile develops a stronger 184 bhp and a meatier 416 Nm and is paired with an 8-speed automatic as standard. The all-wheel drive model additionally gets terrain modes that adjust the drive to the front and rear wheels as per the requirement.
2022 Hyundai Tucson: Rivals
On August 4, Hyundai will release the prices for the brand-new Tucson. The Jeep Compass, the Citroen C5 Aircross, and higher-spec versions of the Tata Harrier, MG Hector, and Mahindra XUV700 will be their main rivals when they go on sale.
