Tata Motors has recently introduced the Tiago i-CNG in the Indian market, marking the company’s first foray into the CNG passenger vehicle market. The hatchback is priced at Rs 6.10 lakh, with four variants available to buyers.
The Tiago CNG is priced starting at Rs 6.10 lakh for the entry-level XE trim and rising to Rs 7.53 lakh for the top-spec XZ+ trim. The Tata’s starting price is the same as the Santro CNG’s. However, unlike the Santro, the Tiago CNG is the only one available in four trim levels, including the top-spec XZ+. As a result, buyers will not have to sacrifice features if they choose the CNG variant over the petrol variant.
Other budget hatchbacks such as the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG, Hyundai Santro CNG, and the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG will compete with the Tata Tiago i-CNG. So, how does the new Tata Tiago i-CNG stack up against its competitor, Hyundai Santro ? Let’s find out in the video.
The Tata Tiago is longer and wider than the Hyundai Santro, but the Santro is taller due to its tall boy design. Despite the fact that Santro is shorter than Tiago, both cars have the same wheelbase.
The Tiago CNG has a boot space of only 80 litres, as opposed to 242 litres in the petrol version. This is as a result of the addition of the CNG tank. whereas the boot space of the Santro has been reduced from 235 to nearly 50 litres.
The Tiago CNG gets three-cylinder, naturally-aspirated engines, while the Santro gets a four-cylinder motor. The engine in the Tiago CNG has a larger displacement (1.2 litres) and a better output (73hp/95Nm). Surprisingly, the Tiago CNG can be started directly in CNG mode, a feature not shared by Santro.
The official fuel economy rating for the Hyundai Santro is 30.48km/kg. The Tiago CNG has a mileage of 26.49km/kg, which is significantly lower than its competitors. What the Tiago lacks in fuel economy, it makes up for by having the largest engine when compared to the Santro.
