Skoda will launch a new mid size sedan before the end of 2021 and it could act as a replacement to the existing 2020 Skoda Rapid TSI.
The @skodaindia will be introducing a mid-size sedan that could act as a replacement for Skoda Rapid towards the end of 2021. The launch timeline of this New sedan was confirmed by Zac Hollis, Director, Sales, Service & Marketing, Skoda Auto India while replying us on Twitter.
The new sedan is expected to replace the existing PQ25 platform based Rapid TSI and it will be underpinned by the heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform as part of the India 2.0 project. This platform will also underpin the Skoda Vision IN based mid-sized SUV, Volkswagen Taigun and the next-gen VW Vento or Virtus.
Currently, the Rapid TSI costs between Rs. 7.99 lakh and Rs. 11.79 lakh (ex-showroom). The BSVI compliant 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine which is capable of producing 110PS of power at 5,000rpm and 175Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. The same TSI petrol engine in the Rapid will more likely be carried forward on to the new mid size sedan with six-speed manual and automatic transmission option.
Apart from this 3 other upcoming Skoda cars like Octavia 2020, kodiaq 2020, Vision IN will be launched in India in 2021-2022.
This new mid size sedan will compete against VW Vento, Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, and Hyundai Verna.
Currently skoda has launched Rapid 2021 in Russia at a starting price of RUB 7,92,000 or approximately INR 7.71 lakh.The car will be offered in Russia with a 1.6-litre gasoline engine producing between 90 and 110 horsepower.
The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed automatic one.There is also a 1.4-litre supercharged engine on offer, which is paired with a seven-speed gearbox with dual clutches. The company claims that the new Rapid can hit zero to 100 kmph in 9.2 seconds. The maximum speed is 204 km per hour.
