The MG Astor and Volkswagen Taigun entered the highly competitive compact SUV segment in India that also includes Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
The Taigun is the Second SUV after KUSHAQ launched under the banner of the India 2.0 project of Skoda AUTO Volkswagen India, where cars from the Volkswagen Group will be heavily localized in India to keep prices competitive.Astor on the other hand, is the 5th product in the MG motors India Lineup after Hector, Hector Plus, Gloster and ZS EV. The MG Astor is essentially an ICE version of the ZS EV.

Volkswagen Taigun and MG Astor are both petrol only SUVs.Volkswagen offers only Turbo Petrol engines in Taigun.MG, on the other hand, Offers both Naturally aspirated as well as a Turbo Petrol engine in Astor. The base petrol engine for the MG Astor is a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. In terms of power, the VW is the most powerful in the segment. producing 115 hp of power and 178 N-m of torque from merely a small 1.0 TSI engine.
The Astor also gets a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol unit in higher variants but produces power similar to the 1.4 units on the Creta and Seltos at 140hp but Again, the 1.5 Litre TSI engines in Taigun is the most powerful in the segment.
