- Tata Nexon EV is currently the best-selling electric vehicle in India with a 64 per cent market share (YTD FY21)
- It gets a 30.2kWh battery pack which pairs with a single permanent magnet synchronous motor powering the front wheels
- The claimed range of the Tata Nexon EV is 312km.
The Delhi government has delisted the Tata Nexon EV from its subsidy scheme for electric vehicles due to complaints by multiple users of sub-standard range performance, officials said.
Few days earlier, The newly inducted Green Car Award by ICOTY was presented to Tata Nexon EV and currently it is the best-selling electric vehicle in India with a 64 per cent market share.
But On Monday , The Transport & Environment minister of Delhi Kailash Gahlot stated ” Delhi govt has decided to suspend subsidy on a EV car model, pending final report of a Committee, due to complaints by multiple users of sub-standard range performance”.
“We r committed to support EVs, but not at the cost of trust & confidence of citizens in claims by manufacturers”, he added.
Last month, a show cause notice was issued to Tata Motors by the transport department which is in response to a Tata Nexon EV customers that his car is not giving the range as claimed by the manufacturer – 312km , officials said. In fact, the customer said that his car has never exceeded 200km on a single charge.
Tata Spokesperson Reply
Commenting on the suspension of Nexon EV subsidy, Tata Motors spokesperson said “It is unfortunate to receive this order from the Delhi Transport Commission. We will continue to engage constructively to protect the interests of our customers. The Nexon EV is the only personal segment EV available in the market today that meets the stringent FAME norms.
“The range at single full charge (312 km) for the Nexon EV is basis the certification received from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), which is the official body that independently tests all mass produced vehicles under standard/defined test conditions before they can be offered to customers.”
The final decision on the matter will be made by a committee that will look into the matter. Until then, the Nexon EV is not eligible for the benefits of the Delhi EV policy.
Last year Delhi Govt announced a policy of EV.The policy gives a subsidy of ₹10,000 per kWh to the first 1,000 e-cars or electric four wheelers, with a capping of ₹150,000 per vehicle. A subsidy of ₹5,000 per kWh of the battery capacity up to ₹30,000 is also to be given on the purchase of each electric two-wheeler, auto-rickshaw, rickshaw and freight vehicle.
To push people to shift to EVs, the policy also has a “scrapping incentive” for those who make the switch.
