The BMW 7 Series emerges victorious, securing the prestigious Premium Car Award at ICOTY 2024 for its distinction as the Best Luxury Vehicle of the Year. It outperformed competitors like the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which secured the first runner-up spot, and the BMW X1, taking the second runner-up position. The competition also featured cars such as the Lexus LX, Volvo C40 Recharge, Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Land Rover Range Rover Sport.
Unveiled in 2023, the latest iteration of BMW’s flagship sedan boasts a modern and sleek design, characterized by a distinctive large kidney grille and an extensive array of updated features. Interestingly, a Few months ago BMW India expanded its lineup to include a diesel variant and the first-ever electric version, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive. The diesel variant, BMW 740d M Sport, is locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai, while the all-electric BMW i7 M70 xDrive is available as a completely built-up unit (CBU).
The petrol variant of the sedan is powered by a 3-litre 6-cylinder turbo petrol engine (381PS/520Nm), while the diesel variant boasts a 3-litre 6-cylinder unit generating 286PS and 650Nm. Both petrol and diesel units are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. With mild-hybrid tech, it also gets a torque boost of 200Nm due to the e-motor.
A standout feature of the 7 Series is its rear transformation, featuring an impressive 31.3-inch 8K ‘cinema’ screen that elegantly folds down, offering occupants the luxury of Amazon Fire TV video streaming in various formats.
Contributing to its well-deserved victory are noteworthy features such as adaptive air suspension and standard electronically controlled dampers. The esteemed ICOTY jury, composed of automotive experts from leading publications, including Carwale.com, autoX, and Car India, unanimously recognized the BMW 7 Series for its outstanding performance, cutting-edge design, and innovative features. This triumph solidifies the 7 Series as the epitome of luxury and style in the automotive world, earning it the prestigious Premium Car Award for 2024.
