Mercedes-Benz is on a roll with its electric vehicle portfolio, having recently launched the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ and the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC, and is now preparing to launch the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQB in India. However, there is a tough competitor in the market, the Volvo XC40 Recharge, which starts at Rs. 55.90 Lakh (Ex-Showroom). So here’s an in-depth comparison of the two-
Mercedes EQB vs Volvo XC40 Recharge- Exterior Design
The boxy yet seamless profile of the Mercedes-Benz EQB helps maximize interior passenger and cargo space. It comes in two models: the EQB 300 and the more powerful EQB 350, both with a choice of Exclusive or Pinnacle trim levels. LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate, and LED taillights are also available on the EQB. Pinnacle models also include a panoramic moonroof.
The Volvo XC40 Recharge, on the other hand, has aerodynamic styling with a contrasting black roof. It is available in three different equipment levels: Core, Plus, and Ultimate. The Core trim comes standard with a body-colored grille panel, T-shaped LED daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, 19-inch black diamond cut alloy wheels, glossy black mirrors, window trim, roof rails, a power liftgate, and a distinct rear lighting signature. Fog lights, a panoramic power moonroof, and door handles with ground lighting are included with the Plus trim.
Mercedes EQB vs Volvo XC40 Recharge- Interiors/ Features
The cabin of the EQB is modern and luxurious. With the optional third-row seats, it can seat five or seven people, making it an ideal vehicle for a growing family. As a result, the new EQB includes all the features that one would expect, such as smartphone connectivity, navigation, voice control, connected car tech, panoramic roof, powered seats, brake assist, crosswind assist, 7 airbags, brake energy regeneration, and a surround view system, among other features.
The XC40, on the other hand, has faux leather upholstery with fabric inserts. In terms of features, the XC40 Recharge borrows the XC60 facelift’s infotainment and telematics, which means a sharper new set of digital dials and the new Android-based infotainment system. A panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, a full suite of sensor-based ADAS technology with Level 2 Autonomous driving, connected car technology, powered front seats with driver-side memory, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system are also included.
Mercedes EQB vs Volvo XC40 Recharge- Performance/ Range/ Charging time
The EQB will be available in two models: 300 and 350. The EQB 300 and 350 share the same 66.5 kWh battery pack in terms of power and range but perform differently. While the EQB 300 has 228 horsepower, the EQB 350 has 292 horsepower. Both variants, however, have a claimed range of 400 km on a full charge.
A DC fast charger can charge the EQBs battery pack to 80% in 32 minutes, while an 11 kW AC charger takes 5 hours 45 minutes and a 7.4 kW AC charger takes slightly more than 9 hours.
While, the XC40 Recharge is available in India in the higher-spec “Twin” version, which has two electric motors – one on each axle producing 408hp and 660Nm of torque and a claimed range of 418km. This makes it nearly twice as powerful as the XC40 petrol and comparable to the larger and more expensive Audi e-Tron 55 Quattro.
Using an 11kW AC charger, the XC40 Recharge can charge from 0% to 100% in 8-10 hours. A 0-80% charge takes 40 minutes on a 150kW DC fast charger.
Mercedes EQB vs Volvo XC40 Recharge- Pricing
The Mercedes-Benz EQB India launch is scheduled for December, with deliveries beginning early next year. When it is released, the Mercedes-Benz EQB is expected to cost Rs 70-80 lakh (ex-showroom).
Whereas, the Volvo XC40 Recharge prices begin at Rs. 55.90 Lakh (Ex-Showroom). However, the pricing of the XC 40 Recharge is slightly lower when compared to the expected price of the EQB, but the main attraction is the third-row seating configuration available in EQB.
