It seems like Mahindra wants to steal rival’s thunder in the Indian SUV segments. Currently focusing on the launch of its 7 seater mid-sized SUV ” XUV700″, the Indian Automotive Brand has trademarked a new name known as Mahindra XUV900 – According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Patent Design and Trademarks website.
The Mahindra XUV900 is likely to be a replacement for Alturas G4 which is a flagship SUV in Mahindra & Mahindra’s lineup. It competes with the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and MG Gloster. Alturas G4 is a rebadged version of Korean SUV SsangYong Rexton.
Since Alturas G4 is not performing well in its segment, it will likely be replaced by its next-generation version which has already launched in the International market as 5th-gen SsangYong Rexton.
Mahindra’s “XUV” nameplate has a separate fanbase in India. No wonder Mahindra wants to use the XUV name for its other upcoming SUVs as well. A total of four names have been registered by Mahindra for its upcoming SUVs – XUV100, XUV400, XUV700, and XUV900, out of which the XUV900 name will be used on the next generation of ALTURAS G4.
The Mahindra XUV900 could get an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS),9 Airbags, Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist, and XUV700-like twin-screen infotainment system and instrument cluster. It could also be offered in both 6 and 7-seater configurations. A 4×4 drivetrain could also be made available as an option.
The XUV900 will be positioned above the upcoming Mahindra XUV700. Once Launched, The new XUV900 will compete with the likes of big-sized SUVs such as Ford Endeavour, MG Gloster, and Isuzu MU-X. It is expected to be priced between Rs 28 lakh and Rs 33 lakh (ex-showroom).
