At this moment we all are aware of the ongoing second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India which may peak between May 11-15 with 33-35 lakh total ‘active” cases by the end of May 2021. Due to this epidemic, many carmakers believe this is not the appropriate time to launch new products.
1)Skoda Octavia
In spite of being starting the production of next-gen Octavia at their facility in Shendra in Aurangabad, Skoda India has confirmed that the launch of the Indian Spec of next-gen Octavia has been postponed due to the ongoing second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Octavia 2021 will be available with a single petrol engine in India ie. a 190hp, 2.0-litre TSI engine. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox will be offered as standard. There will be no diesel engine option in Octavia 2021. It is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB EVO platform which also underpins the 2021 Audi A3.
The feature list of Octavia includes ambient lighting, wireless phone charger,10-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital cockpit,dual-zone climate control, memory seats, cruise control, multiple airbags, front and rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, etc.
2) Mahindra XUV700
A few days earlier, Mahindra revealed the name of its upcoming 7 seater SUV as the XUV700. Slated to replace the current generation XUV500.
Mahindra has confirmed that the powertrain options will include petrol as well as a diesel engine along with manual and automatic transmission. An AWD will also be offered as an option on selected variants. The rivals of XUV 700 include Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar, and Upcoming Jeep compass based 7 seater SUV.
3) Hyundai ALCAZAR
The launch of the Hyundai Alcazar 7 seater SUV has also been postponed from April 29, 2021 to late May. Once launched, the Alcazar will compete against the like of the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Mahindra XUV700.
ALCAZAR is basically a three-row SUV based on the Creta. It will be powered by 2 Engine options ie. a 152hp 2.0-litre engine that sees duty on the Elantra sedan and the Tucson SUV in India and a 1.5 L diesel engine which also makes Creta driven.
4) Skoda Slavia ( Skoda Rapid’s replacement )
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Patent Design and Trademarks website, Skoda Auto India has trademarked a new name known as Slavia. The company is likely to have registered the trademark for the new-gen Rapid.
The Slavia will be powered by a 1.0-L TSI turbocharged petrol engine that makes 108bhp/175Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Apart from that, It will also get a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor that can churn out 148 bhp/250Nm with a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch transmission).
5) Tata HBX
If sources are to believe , the upcoming Tata HBX will Likely be called the ‘Hornbill”. It Could be offered with the 1.2-litre petrol engine with an AMT unit. When launched the HBX will go against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 NXT.
